Level 2 Unlocked

With the coming of the first day of a new term was the coming of the first in a fresh barrage of Rights Respecting propaganda as the school tries desperately to win a Level 2 qualification off of UNICEF. This is not the first time the school has whored out teachers' and students' "valuable learning time" in pursuit of another meaningless award, as can be seen by the base of any planner or letter from the school.

The press station concerned 'Respectful Language' and how students should refrain from saying certain things (such as, for instance, "there is a chance that every government is corrupt") in class, which was ironic since the whole slideshow was accompanied by Article 13 of the Rights of a Child Charter, which reads: "The child shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of the child’s choice."

This whole hour-long fiasco of course pertained to swearing (which we would know nothing about), and how it had no place in school, or at least that's what the presentation portrayed. If we all cast our minds back to 2011 when the Head openly advocated swearing in the classroom and in education, after complaints over the use it of the Sachsgate tapes in an England sh Controlled Assessment, saying of it "I think it is a totally appropriate thing to be doing. We are in the real world and children live in the real world". Not only is the school, with this presentation, rolling back on his previous, entirely correct opinion, but this bone of contention came up again during the events of Trashgate, when we were found stuffing 20's in the swear jar, to show that him deploring us and the way we conducted ourselves was contradictory as well.

Not only the notion of the presentation being laughable, the content was equally poor. As well as using the example of someone shouting "Fire in a crowded theatre", rather than someone shouting "Fire" in a crowded theatre, in groups of people that they thought you would speak to in specific manner, they listed the Head amongst religious leaders, such as Imans [sic], Priests and Rabbis. Delusions of grandeur much?

We assume the Head's next speech will run a lot like this: "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of Quad. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the pond. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after break: for they shall be filled."
